Simple. Liberals were given government power.

Liberals buy votes with promises of government handouts and special treatment for loyal voting blocs.

Anything that is subsidized will grow larger. Thus, America has more moochers than it did 40 years ago.

Yes, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country" was said by John F. Kennedy, a Democrat. But he was not a "liberal" by the standards of todays loony left.

EDIT--ATTENTION ? ? ? ?:

Kennedy also said things like:

"The tax on capital gains directly affects investment decisions, the mobility and flow of risk capital... the ease or difficulty experienced by new ventures in obtaining capital, and thereby the strength and potential for growth in the economy. " (Opposed to capital gains taxes).

"It is a paradoxical truth that tax rates are too high and tax revenues are too low and the soundest way to raise the revenues in the long run is to cut the rates now ... Cutting taxes now is not to incur a budget deficit, but to achieve the more prosperous, expanding economy which can bring a budget surplus." (Fighting for lower income taxes.)

"Today, we need a nation of Minutemen, citizens who are not only prepared to take arms, but citizens who regard the preservation of freedom as the basic purpose of their daily life and who are willing to consciously work and sacrifice for that freedom." (Pro-gun, and recognizes that the 2nd Amendment preserves the right of Americans to overthrow oppressive government.)

So no, JFK was not a "liberal."

I see a lot of blaming of liberals... yet this is a Republican idea a lot from what I can see...

Republicans look at everything how it's affecting them... how much do I have to pay in taxes, is their main policial issue.... Even Iraq is out of their personal fears for their safety...

pretty much every idea they support boils down to improving the lives of the wealthy... school choice would give the wealthy tax cuts on private schools, privatizing social security would mean the welathy didn't have to pay into it and it would be a big boom to the stock market, which they invest in...

what Republican idea actually helps people in the country? the people are the country...

JFK also supported the New Frontier program, which was basically a welfare program... he understood that supporting the poor and building them up... was a great way to build up our own country... give them a way out...

When Libs started to control Congress, and Clinton became president. It's worse now, since the Great Socialist Hillary want's power. We won't lose Socialist ideals, as long as Liberals are in charge. Liberals ARE Socialists, which means "Give me."

I think people today have become very materialistic, therefore becoming more self-centered. They think less about the country as a whole, but more about themselves. People often take advantage of or don't truly appreciate the wonderful blessing of freedom that we have.

That is a great question! I think we moved away from that when we started to become a welfare state. People began to believe there was an entitlement to a decent living and lost sight of the fact that you make your own way in life. If you have a limited education, that might mean you have to work 2 jobs to make ends meet.

Think about what else was going on in United States history at that same time.
Marches + riots = affirmative action + increased welfare.
Too many have only a sense of entitlement.

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship."

Alexander Fraser Tytler

This is true of Democrats and Republicans.

I think you mean "motto". We've become that way because people get more and more lazy and take less and less responsibility for their actions.
