Scared or not... it does not help or change the destiny of mankind! Whatever karma has been performed by the community world over (the doctrine of mass karma)... the results of the same will reflect in the future. The present phase of life we are passing through is scaring... life seems to have lost its meaning. Terrorist activities world over... governance becoming difficult day by day... small revolutions in making (revolts) in each and every corner of the world... does it not shake our confidence on the whole.

The present times in Hinduism are known as Kali Yuga (the metal age) when the darkened forces of nature take the reins. The time would shortly be ripe for a complete revolution... a complete overhaul and that is possible by an Avatar (God manifest in human form) only. Bhagwan Kalki whose advent is awaited with abated breath... shall usher the present era into the golden era.

Bhagwan Kalki would surface on Mother Earth around 2014. From 2012 starts third world War... a fight to the finish between Christianity and Islamic Dharma. Waited since long as world War three was expected to precipitate in October 1998 but did not happen! Perhaps prayers world over delayed it.

The consequences of the world War three starting in 2012 would be enormous. About 1200 million people would perish in the War. A full scale nuclear War... none on Mother Earth would escape the fury of the world War three. Melt down of icecaps, sea waters rising by 10 to 12 feet, 1000 feet high waves, huge tracts of land getting submerged in seawater, acid rains and what not would be perceived between 2012 and 2014... The reason why the Mayan calendar ends in 2012!

Albert Einstein... the famous scientist rightly predicted that world War four would be fought with sticks and stones. Such would be the fury of world War three... science in totality would bite the dust. It is a different matter that beyond 2014 lies the golden era. After the end of world War three... the perception of mankind would change forever! The wanton desires... the great for materialistic riches would completely vanish. This is a misconception. The Mayans didn't stop writing their calendar, and no calendar ends. They just have cycles. December 31, 2010 will be the last day of an annual cycle on the Gregorian calendar we use. 12/31/00 was the end of a year, a decade, a century and a millenium. There have been predictions of doom many times concerning the Gregorian calendar, so some hoaxers decided to do the same thing with the Mayan calendar. The Mayan civilization ended long ago, so they won't be writing anything. There's no good reason to worry about 2012, because it's just a dumb hoax with no real basis, as scientists know.

No. From what I understand, the Mayan calendar runs through a certain number of cycles each of which run for a specific number of years. I think it relates to how long it takes the Earth to move through the constellations.
2012 is the year that ends the last cycle in the Mayan calendar. But what most people forget is that it is a cyclical thing. The cycle begins again. It just means that we are back at the beginning of the first cycle. No worries.

I would be pissed to have spent the last few years of my life working for some a$$hole just to die in some apocalyptic cosmic event. Some say the calender just starts over again. Maybe it marks the return of these extraterrestrials who gave them this information in the first place. I highly doubt these Mayans did this on their own anyway.Maybe they were possessed or taken over by some other culture as well. Kind of like the movie Alien VS Predator. Hopefully my cable won't go out when it happens so I can just watch it on my TV at home and make some popcorn. Maybe it will only be an Pay-Per-view?

No. The Mayan believed that the end of one cycle was the beginning of another we just aren't sure if it is a repeat of the other codices or if they didn't survive to produce the next. But the Cycle we are on and near the end of is telling us we are in for a pole shift and with this comes drastic climatic changes. Like changing of the gulf stream current and the melting and shifting and refreezing of the polar caps. This will change the environment some and we will have to adapt but it won't kill us.

In the past 50 centuries there have been thousands of calendars created by various peoples. Most of those calendars and many of those peoples have ended and the world is still here.

An Example; The Canaanites had their own version of calender, the Hebrews destroyed the dispersed the Canaanites in order to build Israel. Their calender ended when there were none to assemble it any longer, the world did not end.

Just live your life like there's no tomorrow!!!!!!!
Oh the Chinese have something that ends in the year 2012 as well.
I don't know the name of the thing, but they use it to read your personality or future, something like that.
It is one of the oldest Chinese documents, and they still use it.
There's also some other prophesies that indicate the end of the world in the year 2012.
I just though you may wanna know that!!!

All that means is that it's the end of a cycle...Mayans believed that time repeated itself in cycles. Should you be scared? No...but that doesn't mean that something major is going to happen.

No. It didn't say the world would come to an end. It is that the world as we know it will come to an end. In others words many many changes.
