A few years ago I had decided I wanted to hyphenate my last name and add my mom's maiden name to my last name.

Our last name is "Smith"
And her maiden name is "Jones" making it Smith-Jones

Then a year ago I got confirmed (we're catholic) and took the name Katherine which I would now like to add to my middle name which is Rose.

I want to do this all offically, but I was hoping I wouldn't have to wait until I'm 18 to make all these changes. So is it possible to do this earlier and still be legal?

If your parents agree and make it legal then yes.

I guess you can ask your parents to do it or wait until you are 18. I want to change my name Mattimus Jetfire Li to something else too, but I thought about it and I ask a friend and she took me you have to do a lot of stuffs before changing it legally. Stuffs like go to court, wait in long lines and wait for hours just to get a new license, new bank account, new Social Security card, new credit cards, new home mortgage, new car insurance, new student loan (just for me), etc just to change your name. I don't think I have that much time and too much hassle. If you really want to do it, you need to have lots of patience unfortunately I don't. So I say screw it! I am keeping my weird and yet uniquely different name.

You would have to ask whoever is in charge of that.
But Katherine is one of my favorite names and Katherine Rose Smith-Jones sounds really nice. Good luck to you.

Just add it as a middle name on your drivers license/ID card, you will then start showing it as an AKA on those legal forms of ID. The more you use it the more it will show up on future TRW reports etc. It will become part of your name.

Your parents will probably have to be the ones to fill out and sign the paperwork, but you can get your name legally changed.

You WILL want to do this BEFORE you are 18. Because after you are 18, it costs a FORTUNE!!
