In seeking a goal outside the normal abilities of humanity a metaphorical door to that persons soul is opened. A demons soul is much stronger than a humans and pushes it aside to take over the body.

Why, nobody really knows.

An exorcism is a way of overcoming the demon and removing it from the body.

The problem with this whole thing is that only one in a thousand infesting is real.

Well, exorcism is the act of REMOVING something from something else. So I don't think it's possible to get the "exorcism in them"

as far as demons and such like on which the movie was based....that's a different story all together, one which I cannot accurately answer, so I will let someone with more knowledge than me field it.

a priest can preform one ON you......but you have to eat the word to get one in you.
