Might I suggest that you try focussing your attention in another direction .When I've gone through dark periods in my life , the only thing that worked for me was when I turned my attention away from myself & my situation on to someone else.
It can help to break out of the cycle of doom & gloom ...to focus on someone else's needs & try to bring some joy into their life .

I have been depressed for good chunks of my life. But, as odd as this is, I still had no urge to give up everything. Sure, I might think it, but I knew that if I gave up on school, life, etc., that this could possibly make me even MORE depressed.

So, you still have to cling to hope that things will get better. Live as though you are not depressed. Work hard and the rewards of this will pay off. And possibly, make you less depressed.

If the medication does not work, look for other things that might. Get more exercise, eat better, find new activities, go to stres management classes. Focus on what exactly needs to be done to bring you some peace and happiness.

If you don't feel like you have any friends, then join a church, club, or organization. You might be able to meet new, caring people. And maybe you do have good friends, but because of your depression, you haven't been able to connect to them as much as you would like. Ask them to come over to watch a movie, go out and shop, etc. Whatever you like to do.

Depression is a chemical thing, you can't really control it. You can do all the positive thinking and the world and it would only barely cover it up. The best thing to do, would be to get some kind of medicine from your psychologist that helps to balance out those chemical inbalances.

Been there bud - hang in there, my life turned around only a short time after my depression was recognized!

Also, it may be that you haven't found your passion yet. When you do, your energy for that will lift you up and all of a sudden you'll be full of life - and friends! I like to hang out with people who have energy and get excited about things they enjoy - don't you?

I was forcing myself into a career that took me away from my passion. Once I came back to school for what I wanted to do, things picked up. Go on a mission, my friend, to find that which you have talent for, and that for which you have passion for, and then pursue them like no other. Best of luck!

Well one day I was so sad. It was just the worst day ever! I thought of doing something stupid. Then I realized I have not yet full-filled my life yet! I have not even gotten to know the Lord. Or anything! So I just stopped being so mad and everything and just said I am sorry! And I laughed and had a good time, and I made fun of all the embarrassing things that happened to me! After that I felt so much better!

I know how you feel, Ive been there. Talk to people and vent about everything on your mind. Talk to your doctor about your medication, there are many different kinds so maybe the one you are on now isn't the best for you. Start seeing a psychologist and they can help you work through issues.

Depressed yea, give up I'd like to, on med's yea, do they work must not if I am still feeling depressed. Friends fair weathered ones, answers looking for them myself. Giving up can never be an option. Finding someone to connect with, to share feelings, thoughts, hopes, dreams that to me would be my ideal solution.

Go back to your doctor and tell him how you feel. The medication obviously isn't working for you and you need to try something else.

Going to a counselor of some sort can't hurt.

Also, perhaps try to get out of yourself for a bit by doing some volunteer work. It might help get your mind off your sadness.

Good luck.
