Palestinians are people with family origins in Palestine. Their religion is primarily Islam, with Christianity, Judaism, Druze, and other minorities. Today, they are mainly Arabic-speaking.

Under British rule period from 1918 to 1948, the term "Palestinian" refers to anyone native to Palestine, regardless of religion; Muslim, Christian, Jew, or Druze. Following the 1948 establishment of the State of Israel as the national homeland of the Jewish people, the use and application of "Palestinian" by and to Palestinian Jews abated.

The Palestinian National Covenant, as adopted by the Palestine Liberation Organization in 1964, defines Palestinians as those "Arab citizens" who were living normally in Palestine up to 1947, and all their descendants through the male line.

The Israelites were the majority cultural and ethnic group living in Canaan in Biblical times, and as such became the dominant force in the Kingdoms of Israel and of Judah. The English word Israelite derives from ישראל, referring to Israel, which means Upright (with) God (traditional interpretation) or Upright with El.

There were 12 tribes, named after the sons of Jacob, . Levi, Judah, Dan, Naphtali, Gad, Asher, Issachar, Zebulun, Manasseh, Ephraim, and Benjamin. The division into Tribes was geographical, as well as genealogical; each tribe held a distinct territory.

When Rome expelled the Jews from parts of Palestine after the revolt , some people remained behind and with the Arab invasion 500 years later the Palestinians converted it Islam. The Israelis are mostly decedents of the expelled Jews who returned in small numbers over time, and the large influx of Jews after WWII mixed with some of those who stayed .

After WWII American supported the founding of the state of Israel as a home land for the Jewish survivors in Europe. It continued to offer support, but Israel well being was not a priority until the mid 1960's when Israel built an atomic bomb. Because of the fear that Israelis would use the bomb if their survival was threatened, the US has done what was necessary to see that Israel had the conventional weapon needed to maintain military superiority over it's neighbors. At the same time they have tried to arrange peace between Israel and its neighbors, to remove the threat. It is estimated the Israel now has about a 100 nuclear weapons, and the danger from a nuclear war in the middle east is greater than ever. The situation combined with the need for uninterrupted oil supplies from Arab countries have produced actions by the US that seem almost schizophrenic.

The palestinians and isaelites are cousin tribal groups; some of the many Semitic tribes at the east end of the Mediterranean Sea. The great migrations out of Africa went through that area, and civilization developed there very early in human history. Archaeology and religious texts tell us that (like most humans) the various tribes, clans, city-states and other groups were fighting each other off and on pretty much from the moment they appeared there. That's the disadvantage of culture, of course - it allows you to perpetuate stupid feuds long past any significance they ever had. The relationship with America? Like the Biblical Delilah, they both promise happiness if the US takes their side, but end up causing only grief. The Palestinians and Israelites have been hating and fighting each other even longer than the Shi'ite and Sunni Muslims. Being as how they're both typically human, I can't see either group getting smart enough ever to grow up and coexist. Both sides seem to enjoy too much the childish squabbling and killing each other.

I am going to ask you to read any world History that covers a period from 1880 through to the present. I would suggest that you get one from an upper level college course in 20th century world history.

It was about 1890 when Theodor Herzl started what is now called teh Zionist Movement, something that was rushed by the problems of WWI and WWII. All of the problems that caused Jews to move into previously Palestinian lands were problems that threatened the Jews. Herzl came under the Russian and Polish Pogroms (and that is spelled correctly) WWI demonstrated that the French and British could not really control the Eastern Med area and there were two Agreements - the Balfour Agreement and the Sikes-Picot agreement that affected Jews and Palestinians.
