Smart Blonde, huh? Cinco de mayo is not Mexico's Independence Day. Their Independence Day is September 16, the day they were liberated from Spain. Cinco de Mayo celebrates the victory of Mexican forces against French armies in the Battle of Puebla. I don't know why we celebrate this but I think is because of many Mexican immigrants here that many Americans have taken on that custom too. This question is just too funny. I've know Cinco de Mayo wasn't Mexico's Independence Day for years and I'm not even Mexican!

Well, I would wager that Americans who happen to be in Mexico on the 4th of July would do some celebrating. So by the same token, Mexicans n their descendants who r in the US, celebrate Cinco de Mayo.

Cinco de Mayo isn't celebrated all across the US, just in those areas with a heavily Hispanic population. I guess they celebrate it for the same reason St. Patrick's Day is celebrated in the US - there are links, through immigrants, but it's always fun to have something special to celebrate.

It's not Mexico's Independence Day, first off. It's just a day some village fought a battle and won.
But let's face it; Americans love Drinking Holidays. It's a chance to put something on your calendar where you can count on going out after work and getting snockered!

For the same reasons that we celebrate St.Patrick's Day here....
1. There are plenty of Mexicans living here.
2. It's an excuse for restaurants and bars to make more profit.
3. It's another excuse to drink!

To cater to the mass illegals some 60million now.
Also to entice the business for the idiotic profits of drunk Americans.
Ask yourself this?
Which do you prefer?
Mexican invasion or the French
LOL
I say we build the wall, man it with armed marines, and systematically, deport them all!
They cost us annually 3 trillion dollars!
Yet, they send 90% of their earning back to Mexico, so they do not give us a return on the taxpayer's investment. (Not to mention, we didn't request them anyhow)
Would you keep a stock that didn't return a profit?
Running a government is a business and not removing the workers whom are not self sufficient and turning a profit is business suicide.

I don't. Plus, I've never been to Mexico. Nor do I intend to go. Actually, I intend to go way farther than the western continent. Hope this helps.
