Can you die from stress or depression? Not just the physical effects, but because your mind can't take it anymore and sees no relief in sight?

I'm not suicidal. Just really stressed. Plus, I always thought that if God thought you couldnt handle what was about to happen next, he would take you out of this world. I'm not worried about dying.

Well, I've sometimes thought that. I've been very very depressed and self-destructive..and my mental health is so well...unhealthy that I sometimes think that it's going to effect my health and I'm going to die..just because the way I think is so unhealthy..similarly to when one person dies and their spouse gets so depressed and then they die like 6 months later. Depression/stress has very real effects on the body...it can induce illness..like cancer and research is saying more and more all the time that the risk of getting all sorts of diseases can be increased immensely due to stress/depression. Trust me I know the kind of pain you're in...Sometimes you hear that depression is our psyche's way of telling us that something major is wrong. It really is our mind's way of saying...whooooooah..hold on here..you need to change something because this isn't working!!! It's a red flag that means we need to be gentle with ourselves and take the necessary steps to get back to feeling at least okay...you don't have to feel perfect...but you definitely don't have to be depressed all your life. You..and we all...deserve much better. Happiness is a lot of work..but it can happen..and your health will be very grateful if you deal with this depression now..!!

Short answer, Yes. Dying directly from stress or being sad is more rare, yes...but there are more and more studies showing how emotions can take a toll on the body. High stress and cause some heart blood vessels to spasm...if there were blockages before...this spasm may be enough to cause a heart attack...Or perhaps blow an aneurysm...massive bleeding and stroke. Also very very unlikely and rare but it can happen. Depression causing neglect eventually leads to poor health...oooh...sorry you weren't asking physical.
I guess when the mind snaps, that is when people have psychotic breaks and disconnects from reality. Sadly, these people either kill themselves, others or end up in a locked hopsital bed...

Scientifically, It probably will kill you. In theory you will run out of air in the bag and die from asphyxiation. Now you can not be 100% certain of the results, to gain any amount of certainty a certain amount of experimental testing would have to a occur. Now if you decide to go down this route make sure it is what you want, you will not get any second chances to change your mind. You could wait like the rest of us, I mean the eventual end of all life is death. I am in no hurry to die but that doesn't mean I fear death, it will happen sometime and when it does hopefully it will be quick but I don't want to die nor do I fear death.

People are dieing all the time from it. Overload the unconscious system and not stay on top of the energy and wham... someone gets killed and the prisons are full of people who have had that precise problem all along. Conjugal cheating is a good example. And in some states a wife can shoot her husband and his lover or vice-versa and still get away with manslaughter. So "yes" perhaps one can die from stress.

I think only from the physical effects. If there was a God that took you out of the world when you felt like you had enough there would not be overpopulation.

There are so many variables to this. But, there are factual accounts of people just giving up out of grief or depression and dying soon after. It's not just our hearts and brains that keeps us alive, it's our soul and desire and motivation.
Everyone has heard of a couple who was married for years and years. Then, one of them dies. Within a month, the other dies. They've lost their reason to get up in the morning and they're done. So, they die.

Unfortunately yes, you can cause your own demise. People die from broken hearts after losing a loved one, you hear of the spouse dying just days later. You can trick your mind into believing and carrying through with about anything you can dream up.

Stress causes other illnesses physically. However stress can cause people to snap and end up mentally over the edge. When that happens.... you never now what someone is capable of.

Yes... A friend of mine in the Air Force had a Hanger Door fall on him!
Miraculously...He survived.... with every bone in his body broken. The doctor said if he lived 72-hours he would survive. He DID!
After 3-months... He realized that he would be a Cripple and never walk or leave his Wheel Chair.
HE... Just gave up and died... about a Week Later!
Yes... YOU Can!
Thanks, RR

You may think that the physical and mental parts of your body are not connected when it comes to stress, but they are. When you get to the point that you "can't stand it anymore", that is when the future physical damage is being done to your body.
