Sometimes when I start my 99 Malibu (V6), the Brake Light and ABS Light will come on and stay on for a few minutes. This is usually accompanied by the power windows and vent blower not working until I rev the engine a little. The car seems to be running fine once I start driving. I've checked the brake fluid and it seems fine.

I was wondering if this is some electrical problem. I had the battery tested, it was okay, but the terminals were corroded. Right after they were cleaned, I tested my car to see if this fixed the problem. The Brake and ABS lights came on the vent wasn't working until I heard a click from the engine, then the fan was on and the lights off. Other instances, the two lights will come on when I first press my brake pedal after start-up. Could some of this be due to a relay problem, bad battery connection, or something else?

The brake fluid is okay, the parking brake is not engaged, and there are no blown light-bulbs, braking or otherwise. How could I tell if it is a grounding issue? Is it hard (or expensive) to find and fix?

All your problems point to a bad ignition switch, which is a common problem on that car.

Vehicle Description: 1999 Chevrolet Malibu 3.1L, Vin J, Eng Cfg V6
Customer Concern: Intermittently gauges do not work and the battery, anti theft, ABS lights all come on. No power window operation.

Tests/Procedures: 1. When problem occurs check voltages at the fuse panel.

2. If some fuses are lower then battery voltage, verify good power to the ignition switch and check power out of switch.

3. If some of the switch outputs are low replace the ignition switch.

On autos that are geared up with ABS (anti-lock braking device) they have a kit looking ring around the stress axles or hubs on all 4 wheels. (i replaced right into a factors changer no longer a mechanic so excuse me if my factors are slightly off, i be conscious of what I advise however so i'm hoping you could persist with) each and every from time to time you fairly can get some thing caught in between the kit tooth and the sensor that reads the tooth to make certain all 4 tires are spinning on an identical velocity possibilities up a foul analyzing. that's specifically a miles less high priced diagnostic and connect at your interior sight mechanic. If the sunshine turns off when you restart the vehicle it is going to no longer be a brilliant deal.

Sounds like possible tail light burned out and a bad ground in the engine compartment.

Have you ever checked your brake fluid? It could be low, and that's the warning light. Also, is your parking brake completely released?
