Do you think they give fair pts, their reasons, and are they supportive of what the couples do on the floor?

I think they are good judges because they all come from different backgrounds and they all provide essential input to the dancers to improve their dancing skills. I think they are definitely supportive and give fair points, because after all, they are stars, most of whom have never danced before.

I think their main goal is to keep the show interesting while making it sound reasonably objective. To the record: all of the dance professional involved are high level Pro's and they really know what they are doing. What professionals have to estimate correctly is the abilities of the student-star and bring out the best in the short period of time. The rest is pretty clear cut case - we know the rankings of the professionals, that ain't gonna change.

Sometimes I agree with the judges, a lot of times I don't. Most of the time I can predict their judgement from the combination of them wanting to keep it popular and the actual quality of dancing. Their advise is to the point.
In the end, I think they do pick the best (or one of the best couples) but intermediate results are pretty random.

As far as supportiveness goes - that's a new concept to me, as far as judging ballroom. It's not the judges job to be suppotrive while giving the feedback. I recall asking for a feedback from a judge myself - boy was he harsh! She only said 3 words! Believe me it wasn't "Great job, congrats." But she said the most useful phrase to me that made me take my dancing to the next level.

I don't like some of their responses. I feel that the show is a rather good show, but they keep on people that should have been kicked off in the beginning. It's just another American Idol. Not really that big of a deal.
