3x(-x+7)
=-3x^2+21x

This is an example of the Distributive Property. You multiply anything outside the parenthesis with everthing inside.

So...
3x*-x is -3x^2.
3x*7 is 21x.

Result...

The Product is -3x^2+21x.

3x(-x+7)= 3x*-1x+3x*7=-3x^2+21x

It is easier to think of it as multiplying it by -1x than -x. It is just a helpful hint to some people. I know that it helps me.
