can very light water damage to the bottem of a laptop cause the lcd moniter to crack?

No. Laptop monitor cracking is probably from being dropped or the lid getting slammed.

ANY water damage can cause ANY part of the unit to malfunction. That malfunction can be in the form of a component suddenly expanding, producing the crack.
