Once again, it's down to the individual! No amount of trials will address that different people react in different ways. Some of my patients find great benefits from taking EPO & some find it doesn't seem to make much difference. SO, the ones who it helps continue with it & the ones who don't, don't!! Give it a try as with any luck, it you will be one who finds it helpful I do hope so. Best wishes.

Hi, I had a hysterectomy at the age of 30 and when I went to my g.p. he told me the symptoms I was having were down to the start of the menopause because of the operation. I was stunned, I'd not thought of what having this op. would mean with regards to suddenly being menopausal. My g.p. prescribed Evening Primrose Oil for my psoriasis and said that my other symptoms may be helped by it. Well, I never missed a dose, my hair grew a lot faster, my skin was smoother and clearer and my menopausal symptoms were reduced. I was stunned when, after ten years of prescribing E.P.O. my g.p.suddenly said I could no longer have it on prescription, the n.h.s. funding in our area wouldn't allow it. I now go to Holland and Barrett and buy the strongest they sell and I tend to buy it in bulk. It's not cheap, but it's worth every penny. Another thing I've discovered is liquorice root extract, sold in a hard stick, it is bitter and revolting so I break it into pieces and put it into a jug of boiling water, a spoonful of honey to sweeten and give it a good stir. Drink this through the day, adding more water if needed. Liquorice root extract contains phyto-oestrogens, they are the good guys you need on your side to help fight the menopause baddies.Try these little hints, re-claim your right to a life without hot flushes! Take care and keep smiling.

I've been going through the change for the last two month, I've been taking evening primrose oil, sad to say its having no effect at all on hot flushes or any of my other symptoms, but I'll keep taking it because I don't suppose it can do any harm and it may benefit me in some way or another, I'm gonna definitely try the "menopause" from super-drug that was suggested on another question related to the same thing ( before I either self combust or go stark raving loony)!!!!!!!!***

I take it and it's works well for me. I used to have broken sleep a lot but not anymore.

I also had vivid dreams everynight when I first started taking this. Never waking though.

Like the other user said, buy the good ones usually found at health food stores.

For menopausal symptoms try NATURAL progesterone. Wild yam root and chaste berry capsules and even better in gel form(also found at any health food store). Type in Estrogen vs progesterone in google and you will find a wealth of information. Don't take any of that synthetic stuff, there are much better options available.

Good Luck

I have RA Rheumatoid Arthritis with Psoriasis and went to see a Doc in UK, who told me my diagnosis and prognosis. Because I also have a immune problem, they cannot treat me with the conventional drugs, take anti-inflammatory drugs but non of what they term the third line. Instead he told me to take Evening Primrose Oil, 1000mgs for every condition and I was to stay on it. By now I was willing to try anything, so got the EPO. First week I noted my bowel movements were explosive and smellie. Next I notice my 'fibrocystic breast disease' that cause serious pain before my period was, well it had vanished? I did not at first relate this to the EPO. I moved home so was busy for five months, really did not have time to think about anything. A Computer Guy who used to repair the Computers at College arrived just before Christmas to set up my desk top and connect me to the Internet way back in 1998. He simply said 'I do not know what you are taking, but whatever it is, you look so much better then I have ever seen you before!' I did not pay that much attantion until after he left and then sat back and thought: what was the last joint to get red-hot, swollen and painful? It was only then, six months after taking EPO everyday without fail I suddenly realised it was working. Before I would be admitted to Hospital twice a year, due to the Arthritis! mI have not been admitted since. I last saw my Rheumatologisy in December 1996! Eleven years of being on my own without a Rheumatologist. The Psoriasis at last has started to clear and I got a dog in 1999 and we walk three miles three times a week. It was my Physician who told me I was pre-menopausel, as I noticed I was missing a period and am not on HRT, just sailing through this phase. Well I think I might be menopausel now, have not had a period since January, but had two in January. I keep telling people with Arthritis, Psoriasis or PMT to take EPO, but may as well be talking to my Dog? They come back with excuse after excuse. A friend had endometreosis [sp] could not conceive and wanted children. I suggested she try EPO and now she has four kids, just like that. I now get my EPO on prescription via my Physician and if the Medical Profession have it on prescription, well it must work.

it really is not precisely the answer you're after yet you're attracted to this: My brother in regulation is a chiropractor/naturopath and that i requested him the very similar question the different day purely out of interest. He instructed me that fish oil is extra valuable then nighttime primrose oil for ripening the cervix if taken as follows - 4000-6000mg common up till 38 weeks (from 30 weeks), 10000mg common after that till your due date and then upload an additional 1000mg for common you're late to a optimal of 15000mg (taken orally). i develop into instructed early on in my being pregnant to stay away from fish oil because it would want to reason the cervix to dilate and produce on a miscarriage (this develop into with the help of yet another naturopath) so there is of route some reality in it i'd imagine. He also instructed me that nighttime primrose oil is sweet to apply for perineal rub down - purely take it out of the pill so perchance you may want to apply the oil out of the pill if it really is what you're after. except that he reported that nighttime primrose oil is great taken after delivery to help the uterus to go back to common. if you're late or attempting to deliver about labour perchance you may want to commence taking the better dose of the fish oil. Sorry it really is not precisely what you've been after yet even though it will be of interest to you.

For many years evening primrose had a great list of conditions it was both prescribed by doctors and recommended for.

A series of properly controlled studies were carried out looking at whether it was any use.

Only one study showed any real benefits, and they were quite modest. It does seem to help in cyclic (= menstrual) mastalgia= breast pain.

Specifically it was shown to be of no benefit in reducing menopausal symptoms.

Let's just say that I turn into the psycho B1t(¦-¦ from hell without it!

I usually take four 1300mg or four 1000 mg each day, no problem... I know it's technically overdosing, however.

Holland and Barret(t?) is the way to go.
