One of the very best ways to stay cool on hot summer days is to wrap a cold neckerchief around your neck. You can buy commercial ones with water-expanding beads in them, you soak it in ice cold water for a few minutes then wrap it around your neck. You could improvise, too. It's amazing how refreshing it is.

Also, dress in light coloured, cotton, clothing, wear a straw hat (it allows ventilation) and use an umbrella to shade the sun in open areas.

Just think of cold, cold places, or the coldest you have ever been.
Takes some mental work, but it's possible to believe it's cooler than it actually is.
