I had a normal pap smear about three months ago, however, I am having pain during sex, only initially when it is inserted...what could this be?

It could be lots of things....and a pap smear isn't going to tell you anything but whether or not you have abnormal cells in your cervix (i.e. you have pre-cancerous cells). You need to talk to your doctor specifically about this.

When we perform pap smears, we scrape, and most of the time that breaks skin/causes some trauma. So yes, it's normal to have some pain, if subsequent pap smears leave you with no pain, consider yourself lucky. Some women experience more pain than others because of simply anatomical differences. Certainly, if the problem persists, or you begin to develop a fever, or signs of infection seek help from your doctor - but otherwise, it sounds like everything is fine (albeit painful).

things like endometriosis cause pain with $ex. Try changing up positions, that might help. Good luck!

It could just be your partners size.

Try lubricant, or a new position.
