No, we don't, at least the citizenry doesn't. That went out of fashion after the British Empire's sun set. Our President isn't so keen on history though, it appears that he just might be thinking that way.

Wait until 2008 when he's gone.

Yes, of course, that's why Guam, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands are the 51st, 52nd, and 53rd states! Globalization is fine for economics, not government, and the United States has not had the intent of conquering any countries and planting our flag as their own. The United States interest is in the rights of the Iraqi and Afghan citizens and to assist them in starting their democracies so they don't have to live in fear of the Taliban or Hussein Bathe Party Tierney. The United States is interested in eliminating safe havens for terrorists. The United States is about enforcing international resolutions to prevent weapons of mass destruction and nuclear weapons from being proliferated through an unstable portion of the world, either through recognized sovereign nations or terrorist organizations. The United States is about supporting long time allies like Israel and Great Britain. We didn't conquer Germany or Japan (Although we do still have military forces there to support their defense), we didn't conquer Cuba and we are not about to conquer Iraq or any other nation in the middle east. The fact that we don't want to expand our empire doesn't mean that we should have no interest in whats going on in the rest of the world. Our national security and the best interest of the American people extends throughout the worlds economies and therefore we must take an interest in the stability or instability of a region.

Don't you mean "Does the American government seek a global empire?" Separate the rulers from the ruled. I'm not seeing a thing from Bush and Cheney's fortunes of war.

Maybe. At least for the time being under this administration

Yes. That's why instead of making Iraq the 51st state and taking all its oil we're sacrificing our citizens so savages can have a shot at democracy. Same goes for Puerto Rico, Guam, the northern Marianas, Japan, Germany, etc.

No, they seek global resources, especially oil, anyway they can get it and no matter who they have to sacrifice to get it!

I guess you could call that a resource empire!
