Ok so my swordtails have ich.. a few spots on their tail fins and I have noticed my male betta Finnie has a few on him. He is watching his eggs in his nest. Can I treat his tank? Will it harm the eggs? Also my swordtail and my platy are pregnant and will the medication harm the fry? My betta is in a 10 gallon tank...the swordtails and other fish are in a 36 gallon tank. I also put the aquarium salt in the tanks. TIA!

That would depend on what you're using to treat the ich. Your safest option would be to use salt and higher temperature to treat this. Slowly raise the water temperature to around 90o, or as high as your fish will tolerate if you can't go this high. Do this by adjusting the heater a few degrees each hour. Add non-iodized salt (aquarium, kosher, canning, pickling) at 1 tablespoon for each 5 gallons of water, which you can raise to one teaspoon per gallon. This won't have any negative effects on the species you mention, and your livebearers will actually like having it in the tank. If you have salt-sensitive fish, use the lower dose. Treat for 10-14 days, or at least 3 days after the spots disappear.

Malachite green and formalin. two common ich treatments are both carcinogens, and might have a greater chance of affecting the eggs or fry.

I really don't think it will hurt the fry, not 100%, though. I know for sure that if you don't use it, the sick fish will die. The fish will breed again, so just do it, and save them.

No it won't.
But remember that eggs and babies are
still very sensitive.
I would recomend to not
use full dosage.
