With the exception of arabic, hebrew and ciryllic languages, almost all other languages have the same alphabet letters. Sign language is based on the formation of letters and numbers and the picture of an object ... which are almost universal.
I dare to say most people using sign language can understand most other signers ... but American sign is, sadly, like most things American too individualistic.

I think flashing a smile, waving, or giving the bird is probably the closest that we'll get to a universal sign language.

Sign language is univeral i believe. I have been told that anyways. Im sure there are variations from one country to another but most is the same.
