Yes, it was Orel, and I was at the game when he broke the record against my San Diego Padres, Sept. 28, 1988. He pitched 10 innings, allowing only four hits, in a game which the Dodgers eventually won 2-1, in 16 innings (Yes, I stayed 'til the end). I didn't like LA, but looking back, I think this game started my lifelong hate of the Dodgers. BEAT LA! BEAT LA! BEAT LA!
edit: This was his last regular season start of the year, he actually went 8 more innings in the NLCS before finally allowing a run. If playoff stats counted he would have gone 67 innings. He gave up a run to the Reds in the first inning on Opening Day the next season to officially end the streak.

Orel Hershiser in 1988, with 59 scoreless innings pitched to end the season. He broke the previous record, held by Don Drysdale, of 58 2/3. Drysdale was one of the Dodgers' broadcasters at the time.

Indeed it was Orel Hershiser in 1988 with 59 scoreless innings. I believe he led the Dodgers to a World Series title over the heavily favored Oakland A's that year as well.

Orel Hershiser with fifty 9. This 365 days, Brandon made a run at it with 40 two scorless innings, yet Hershiser's checklist will possibly no longer be broken, with the aid of actuality that mounds in th majors are actually not as tall as they have been in Orel Hershiser's time.
