Ok, my friend told me that when every girl turns 18, she has to go to the gyn for a checkup,, and that they are going to look down there and scrape the walls of your v to check if u have cancer..
is this true?
does EVERY girl have to do it?
if so, what happens if you dont want to?
is it a requirement or something?

Any female who is sexually active should go to the gyn and get a pap test.
A pap test is no big deal..... the doctor just takes a swab and rubs it over the cervix smears it on a slide and sends it off to be looked at by a pathologist.
For your own health and protection you should have this done. If it bothers you thinking of going to to a male doctor find a female gynecologist.
I think every girl should have the the new vaccination for HPV too.

A girl should see the gyn when she becomes sexually active, or when she turns 18, whichever comes first. The gyn does use something that looks like a long q-tip to gently "scrape" (you don't hardly feel it) the inside of your vagina to check for cancer and sexually transmitted diseases. It's called a 'Pap smear'. Of course, it's a person's own personal choice if she chooses to go to the gyn or not, but I would personally recommend that you do so at some point. No, it is not a requirement, but it is recommended for your own health. Just like you would go to a regular doctor for a check up. Hope this info. helps.

yes its true. Especially if you are sexually active. It may be a little uncomfortable but for that little bit of discomfort gives you piece of mind that you are healthy and free of cancer.
If you are worried find a girl gyn for a check up. If you can't find one ask around for recommendations from your female friends and if the doctor is male you can request a female nurse present (by law they must get one).
Its not a requirement but highly recommended.. its not painful and the first time is a little scary, but you can't put a price of piece of mine
Edit: Oh and answer to your second part. I don't think they can put you to sleep for it... unless you pay for it yourself (which is a lot).. speak to your doctor
Think of it this way.. If you get cervical cancer or have kids then people will be looking at it anyway.. so might as well get it done now.. cause you don't want cancer
Good luck

First of all, they don't scrape the walls of your V. They only scrape the cervix, which takes a second and feels like you're being stroked by a wand. It's painless.
As for age, you have to go to the Gyn around 20, but sooner if you're having sex. I went when I was 19 because I had period problems.
It's an exam of your uterus to be sure you're okay.
Everyone is nervous about their first time. I have always gone to women Gyns. It's easier and they treat you better than male Gyns.
It's required because if you never go, you can develop cancer without knowing it until it's too late and die. I'm not kidding because that happened to one of my friends.
Every woman goes. I have been going since I was 19. I am 44 now.

Yeah it is a little scary your first time and i dont know if you have to at 18. I went when i got BC. Its a little strange but if you go to a doctor that you are comfortable with its really not a big deal. They actually check for a lot of things not just cancer. Ask your doctor about it.

You are supposed to have a pap smear(this is when they swab cells from your cervix) to check for cancer as well as STD's from the time you become sexually active. If you are not sexually active, you should get your first exam at 18.
It is unpleasant, but it is better than chemotherapy! Early detection is the best defense. So for your own well being you should go.

Yep, it's true. I mean, there's no law, but if you DON'T have it done regularly after your body is finished maturing, you could potentially miss catching cancer in time to cure it, etc. It's not as bad as it sounds. Trust me, I was TERRIFIED the first time I went to have it done, but if you've got a nice doctor who knows that you're nervous about it and makes a point to be gentle, it will be just a little uncomfortable....nothing more.

yes it is, but it does not hurt. all they do is stick a long cotton swab up there and take a small sample of your discharge. its pretty much the same thing they do to check for strep throat.
good luck
