Even if you plan on just computer DJing you still need hardware. If you just want to play music on your computer instead of actually DJing, MixMeister Express is a pretty good program.

MixMeister Studio $169.95
MixMeister Fusion $329.95
MixMeister Fusion + Video $429.95

For computer DJing you'll need at a minimum:
1. A controller.
2. DJing software.
3. Upgrade your computer's sound card.
Most DJ applications require two quality soundcards.
4. Portable Hard Drive.
Internal hard drives on laptops are usually too slow for live DJing.

First, try and make friends with a current local DJ...chill at his place, and ask him to show you around his turntables. You can go with high-tech software the big guys use, but they're only there since they've been at the artistry for over a decade. Then, if you're really interested, go buy someone's old equipment and records, just experiment and have a blast. If you want to compose your own original songs, I heard "fruity loops" is the program to obtain. Good luck and take care, ~N
