They did ask that one repub to rate George bush from "A" to "F", but he wouldnt. He said something republican like when I was in grade school we didnt get grades until the end of the year.

An since Ronald reagan is known as the best republican president they felt the need to add their own homage.

But if you cant be man enough to admit when the president is doig wrong, then can you really say you are thinking of the american public if you cant answer honestly.

I think the problem is, republicans are republicans before they are americans

Because no one beats Ronald Reagan. He is a great example on how to run a country. Bush is looked down upon now, because of being in a heavy war, which is the case with any President, during war time. The candidates wanted to use Reagan's experience, and his highly loved, and respected history, to get points. Not that they themselves don't respect him, but it is coming close to election time. It was a debate.
I believe Bush is a good president, and doing the right thing by US, but because there is a war, he will be pushed aside, during these debates, for the Presidency. For the peoples vote, for nothing else.
Truman, Roosevelt, Lincoln, and even Grant, weren't thought of much as good leaders, until after the wars were over, a long time later.

They're all trying to emulate Ronald Reagan, but really I don't think any of them are strong enough to succeed at that. Don't get me started on the Democratic candidates.

They may have stayed away from Bush because of what a touchy subject he is. Besides, the Democrats pretty much had him all to themselves in their pathetic excuse for a debate last week -- more like a press conference, if you ask me. I haven't actually seen the Republican debate yet, so I can't be too sure, but that would be my guess.

lol, I thought it was at least 30 times. Actually I think this is a good sign. Things weren't so bad under Reagan; returning to some of his policies, especially in the area of foreign relations would be a good thing.(People have forgotten that Reagan raised taxes because more revenues were needed)

First of all, the debate was held in the Reagan library. Secondly, President Bush is still in office so it is hard to tell how what he has done will end up effecting the nation. Finally, Reagan is kind of the benchmark for a successful conservative in the national political arena.

It was so hard to watch all those sycophants invoke Reagan's name time and again as if any of them could be close to being Reaganesque. It was pandering of the most obvious kind and they had to avoid Bush's name like the plague for fear of being too closely associated with him. But what they still aren't getting is that unless they start speaking out clearly against this war, none of them will have a shot at the Presidency. This country wants a complete regime change, that has become clear. They sure won't be getting the moderate or Independent vote back if they keep this up.

Well gee,,, Maybe it's got something to do with the fact that the debate was HELD at the Reagan Library???

Just a thought.

sampling of public opinion.(rove is the master manipulator of this...what to say, what word to use, when to say it, etc.) currently reagan is revered and for some he represents the glory days of the g.o.p.. whereas bush...the polls speak for themselves. to win the presidency, the g.o.p. candidate will need support from independents. their numbers currently are very close to democratic numbers on the topic of support for the policies of bush.

Because these people "Reagan wannabes". All they scream about is abortion and gun rights--but nothing else which is affecting Americans on a number of levels.

Just proves once more that these GOP candidates are more for themselves and not what this nation desperately needs: Leadership and accountability.

It is a fact. The candidates did not want to be identified with Bush since his approval rating is so low. They kept bringing Raygun's name up in hopes of convincing the less intelligent that the GOP was going to reform itself away from Bush the moron's administration practices.
