The Earth rotates, as you know, every 24 hours (from your reference point, say, your house). The Sun sets in the west . Our planet is large enough to hide sunlight (as the Sun passes the terminator, or line of sight, into the other side of the planet).
If we were closer to the Sun....you may notice that the night sky will be a little bluer (maybe dark blue, as in twilight)--because the relative distance to the Sun decreases, the size of the Sun increases...remember the Earth is very small compared to the Sun! ....of course if we were closer, we humans would not be able to survive!!

At night the Sun is on the other side of the earth, we are literally looking into space. Since the earth is spinning, once every 24 hours, some of that time is spent facing away from the sun. That's why it's day on one side of the world when it's night on the other. This also accounts for time zones.

Because it's on the other side of the Earth. The stars are up all the time, not just at night, but the Sun is so bright it blocks them out.

Because the earth rotates and at night you are on the side of the earth facing away from the sun.

The earth is rotating on its axis. At night we don't get any light from the sun in about 12 hours and that means we can't see it during that time.

Because the earth rotates around the sun, and we can only see it during the day. That's why there's day and night. When it's night we can't see it because it's on the other side of the world by then.

Because the earth makes a good light-blocker (it's opaque). The sun is on the other side of the earth at night (relative to where you are -- at night), and light can't shine through the earth.

Because the earth revolves around the sun, and the earth is spherical. When you don't see the sun at night. people living elsewhere see it.

You're joking, right?
Right? I mean, seriously? You're kidding.
You know the Earth rotates on its axis once every 24 hours, meaning that half of the planet is facing away from the sun at any given time, right?

Because it's on the other side of the earth. If the earth were transparent, you would be able to see it just fine.
