I would just give her the hard tippy and she will eventually get thirsty enough to use it. she's just being stubborn and knows she can get what she wants. also. she may not be ready for this step. If you push her too hard, the sippy cup will become a negative thing for her, and she will resist it even more.
Instead, have a favorite drink that she only gets in the sippy cup, like apple juice. Don't get mad at having to help her, she senses this. Make it positive, and remember she is still just a baby and she needs more time than you think to do some things.
. good luck to you.

I started my youngest with a sippy cup at around your daughter's age (8-9 months). I would give it to her once a day or so. I wouldn't make it the only way she could get her milk, and we tried several different kinds of cups.
She ended up taking to the Gerber sippies when she was about 11-12 months old. By the time she was 13 months old, the bottles were gone completely.
Be patient, don't try to rush her... give her the option of the cup once a day or so. My daughter saw the cup as more of a toy for the first couple of months. Your daughter should take to it eventually.
Good luck.

My daughter would not drink a sippy cup either. I weaned her from the bottle straight to a cup. She was a year old. If you don't want a mess try a straw cup. Either way you look at it the best thing would be to let her have the regular cup. Its better for her teeth. Sippy cups, straws, bottles, etc. they all rott teeth. It will be a job but just stick with it.

She only 8 months old so giving her a bottle is fine your weaning her to early. And she little young for sippy and big cups contunie with the bottles till she's 12 months then wean her off and start giving her sippy cups.

My son took to a cup easily. He didn't really take to the sippy cup until after about 10-12 months. I understand wanting to get your daughter off of the bottle... I was the same way with my son. It just takes ALOT of patience!! Just keep trying to get her to take to it.... tilt the cup in a way that she can see she'll be able to treat it like a bottle. Perhaps when she is trying to get the drink, the cup is not tilted enough for the drink to be at the sippy part. Keep working with her, she'll get there!

I took the stopper out of the cups until my daughter was used to the idea of drinking from the sippy cup, that way she didn't have to work to get her drink out. I tried everyday with the stopper after I gave her a drink without the stopper and eventually she figured out how to suck the drink with the stopper in it. She didn't figure it out until she was about 10 months. Don't give her anything but formula in a bottle because it is just going to make the transition to sippy cup and the transition out of bottles much more difficult.

I have an Advanti sippy cup, I think it's the "magic cup" and its just like a regular sippy cup except they have the suck the sippy top to get the liquid out of it. once they get used to the sippy top you can move to the next stage. bets place to start is when they are having a bath, as it doesnt mater if they spit the water everywhere or dribble it out. :)

8 months is a little young to wean a baby - she should be drinking formula for at least 12 months, and she needs to satisfy her sucking needs.
Hide the cup for about a month - don't let her see it. Then try some water at the end of a meal, or when she first wakes up; when she is extra thirsty. Clap if she does, smile, say 'yeah!'
[ you will get very good at clapping now that you are a mom ]
Good luck!

My oldest never has liked drinking from a sippy cup, so I went for a straw cup. She loves them and I had no problem getting her to drink from it. You can find spill proof straw cups out there. I started her off with one that had handles and them moved her to a slim taller one that could easily fit in my diaper bag. It's great, I take it out to dinner with us and just fill it up, and she is a happy camper. (and so am I)
