They may have gotten overconfidence by defeating Sri Lanka In the super eight stage.
it is certain that india and south africa played almost equally(lost to bangladesh) (but south africa defeated the lankans not the team india) just lucky to be till semi finals.
Sri Lanka may have lost to the aussies by less overs to play and it was getting to dark as it started late.
they lost because
1. The SA teams were psychologically down due to their defeat to Bangladesh
2. The SA teams were over stressed on the day they played Australians

South Africa failed to perform against Aussies in the semi final because in they were not in the best of form. Before the World Cup started South Africa and India, both were in good form but during the campaign they did not do well. The only thing was that India did not qualify for the super eight but South Africa did only because of netherlands and Scotland, two non-playing nations. Both the team had same condition. both the teams lost to Bangladesh. So it was certain that South Africa would get out of the World Cup during the semi finals.

This is what i hate about them !! Its their habbit......they work hard through out the tournament......and let their supporters to raise their hopes high and then just at a very important point , they give up, telling opposite team."please you proceed we are not interested in this trophy at all".........i could never get why they repeat this history again and again !! it seems as if they get tired just close to the final....!They didn't even fight in semis...and that was a hopeless situation realy !!
Like you can't say, they have no dedication, can't work hard, have no talent, or else...they are blessed with everything....but Still.........and there is a Big Question Mark !! they usualy deteriorate slowly "without any reason"!! yes Australia is strong team but atleast they should have given some fight !!

Why SA lost to Aussies in the Semifinal of the ICC CWC 2007?
1. The SA teams were psychologically down due to their defeat to Bangladesh
2. The SA teams were over stressed on the day they played Australians
3. The Aussies were simply fired-up and no matter how good the SA teams physically or psychologically strong, the margin of SA loss to Aussies would only have affected.
4. The Aussies were simply unstoppable.

Australia was easily the better side. For all his talk Graeme Smith is a pretty immature captain (remember when he got sledged by Fleming). SA was hugely overrated during this WC, they almost lost to SL and they did lose to B'desh, and they surrendered tamely to NZ. They would have crumbled to the spin of Hogg in any case (Hogg got Gibbs in the first round, and that effectively ended their hopes). They were rightly the 4th seed in the semis, and got what they deserved when they met the 1st seed.

in the beginning their batting became into pathetic interior the 1st innings. Then the bowling became into very undesirable. the full team ought to be held in charge. yet Batsmen have been extra in charge with the aid of fact they have been no longer able to get the lead on an somewhat short score of South Africa. in the event that they could have have been given the lead, the bowlers could have bowled properly.

i honestly believe S.A one dimensional bowling attack cost them against the Aussies,S.A got away with their 4 strike bowlers all around the same pace and bounce with little swing against average opponents but playing the Aussies you need a varied attack and a good spinner which S.A don't have.
plus the batsmen choked and tried to use a terrible and un-natural game plan to try and upset the Aussie bowlers-charging at them whch only resulted in a couple getting cleaned up.

Australians are simply the best players .They have been winning the world cup for three consecutive years.they have one of the best players and any team would come under pressure while playing against them especially if you are in the semi finals. So I don't blame them for losing against one of the best teams.

I understand that South Africa came out with a game plan to attack Australian Bowlers from the word go. However, they did not succeed in their plan as they lost quick wickets and they could not regain their confidence and aggression after that.

this is because their (SA) players like jacques kallis were over-confident of winning in the semi-finals so they failed to perform against the Aussies in the Semi Final!!!
hardwork leads to sucess!!!
