The RIAA caught me since my files were being openly shared on Limewire even though I didn't intend for them to... I'm just a poor college student and I need to produce $3000 in 2 weeks, or else they'll subpoena me and come sue me.

I need to either get this money from my dad or borrow from someone else... But it'll be REALLY hard to explain this to my dad and I don't know if I should be keeping this information from him anyway... I feel really lost and alone right now, defeated by the RIAA... Please help me!

get a lawyer and use as your defense that the riaa has no tangible proof and have the lawyer fight for the riaa to produce documentation of what files they have of you downloading. a woman did that and the riaa not only dropped the case, but when she countersued for legal fees, they had to pony up their lawyers' bills for court record. what they are doing is called by another name-extortion. they are going on the basis that everybody has downloaded illegally and that all they have to do is threaten to sue and people will pay to avoid having to pay millions. they will continue to do this so long as people cave-fight them every turn you get.

I say stand up to them. Make them prove it. Sounds to me like they invaded your privacy. How would they know you were on lime wire. If you are that worried remove lime wire and all files that are apart of it. You could go to download.com and find a program called eraser 5.7 and erase any files you shared. It really works. It overwrites the data 35 times with X's and o's then deletes that data. There is no trace of anything. So if they subpoena your hard drive there will be nothing on it to prove anything.

LOL I wish I was you. I'd tell them to go f themselves and just try to sue you. I'm sure there are about a billion lawyers out there who would take your case pro bono just to get in on the class action countersuit.

omg i have no idea they actually did this, i thought they were just scaring people! what the hell they make so much money they need to sue the people that actually listen to them, so what if you download a song, you will prob also buy a shirt, concert ticket poster something so they would get there money back. also, make sure this is legit because someone might be trying to scam you...good luck hun!

hate to say it but Honesty is the best thing in this situation. Tell your parents, its better that they find out now than when you get hauled to court. BTW, this is a bunch of baloney to be doing this to college kids.
