Most women don't get their first period until they weigh around 100 lbs. However, that's not true for everyone. Some women weigh more and some less. I had my first period in the eighth grade and didn't weigh any more than 80-85 lbs. If you are at a healthy weight for your age and height, you shouldn't be too worried about when your period will start. Everyone's starts at a different time.

The average is about 100 pounds. Below that your body doesn't prepare itself for pregnancy because it can't handle it. Some women, though, do get their periods if they weigh less than 100 pounds. A lot of it has to do with nutrition as well, if you are well nourished you are more likely to get your period for the first time as opposed to being malnourished.

On a side note, the average age of first menses in the US has declined because of childhood obesity. While the average age used to be 14 for first menses, it's not unusual for girls as young as 9 to get their periods because of excess body fat...

Usually your period is not dependent on your weight. A young woman's period starts when her ovaries become fertile (aka, puberty). However, a woman's weight can be affected by her cycle. Many women gain several pounds of water weight during the 2 weeks or more following ovulation. I myself usually have and additional 10 pounds of water weight during that phase of my cycle. Its nothing to be alarmed over. It is said that taking vitamin B complex helps with this issue.

Usually women who weigh more or are obese get their periods earlier.
There have been studies proving this.
