I'm actually more surprised by good customer service since it's so rare now a days. Pleasantly surprised.

I know! I'm from the Great Lakes region of the US. Grew up in a small town and everybody was really friendly in stores there. I actually worked at a gas station last spring where I had to take a class in customer service! I think it was helpful. I always tried to be friendly to customers, even if they pissed me off! lol

Moved to a metropolitan area a few months ago and I'm appalled at the lack of customer consideration here. It seems like people in stores are bored to tears and don't even make an effort to be friendly or helpful. I always found working in these environments more enjoyable when I tried to be cheerful. Apparently they don't get this.

Another thing I hate is calling "help lines" these days. It's nearly impossible to get a human being on the phone. They have those stupid computers that are supposed to be able to tell what you say. "I think you said Frog Balls. Is that right?"

UGH!

I am always surprised when I get good customer service -- but that's because I live in Belgium where the idea of customer service has yet to really take hold. Many sales people (if you can find them!) act as if you're inconveniencing them if you ask for assistance.
Lots of things are just "not possible". For example, just last week a friend ordered a big salad for lunch and was told it came with French fries. When she told the waiter she didn't want the fries -- the reply was, sorry, that's just not possible. (It didn't make any difference in the price.) So they served her the fries too. Weird, huh!?!

"Good Customer Service" what the hell is that?
Yes I am surprised. Doesn't anyone get fired or performance appraisals anymore? How many times I go to the grocery store and the cashier isn't looking at what she's doing but talking to the cashier two registers over about what she did last night. You can't even ask her a question cause she won't hear you say "you rang that up twice", so when she finally finishes her OH SO IMPORTANT conversation and acknowledges your presence by giving you your total, you say hey "you rang my 15 dollar rump roast twice", so then you get the oh so familiar "hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" noise right before they forcefully hit the switch to turn on the blinky light to call a manager over who's also engrossed in an oh so important conversation....

Yeah, I'm not bitter and this didn't just happen to me.

I'm more amazed when I get good customer service. It is really a dying thing. I worked for tips for years, so I don't tip when I get bad service. Customer service is a huge pet peeve of mine. Don't work with the public if you can't be nice!!!!!1

not in the United States. In general, i find that customer service here is professional and friendly. However, customer service in France (where I am from) stinks. Also, I appreciate even more when I get helpful service here.

Big Jay! I finally get to answer one of your questions.

I'm surprised when I get good customer service. I think, what are you up to?
It's declined so much that I am suspicious of their 'can I help you with that', and 'I'm here if you need me' talk.

Hey, can I add you as a contact, so I can answer more of your questions?

I was going to suggest that customer service has gotten better as customers have become more aware of the type of treatment that they deserve. More and more companies are focusing on providing better service as they recognize that customers are becoming more and more selective as to where they shop.
