I recommend you buy it used, if all you can afford is $250 and it must have goto.

Used telescopes can be found on..

http://www.cloudynights.com
http://www.astrobuysell.com

and

http://www.astromart.com

Astromart now charges a $12 fee for new accounts but it's worth it. I think it's more reputable than astrobuysell as well.

If buying used, always do your homework first. Never pay by wire transfer, and if it sounds too good to be true, it is.

Telescopes.com has a great selection of telescopes that have a feature where you can select an astronomical object and have the telescope automatically slew to the object.

Price can depend on what type of telescope you are looking for. Refractors and reflector telescopes vary in price.

I own the Celestron Nexstar 130SLT - it's a bit pricey, but works great. Check out the site (http://www.telescopes.com/) and hopefully you can find something.

You can hardly buy a scope that's worth looking through at that price let alone a GOTO scope. I'm afraid you're going to have to save a bit more. Try looking at this earlier Q about a scope in the UK. Both these are 250 pounds and very good.

A goto feature will usually add at least $100 to a new scope's price. I don't think you'll have much luck with such a low budget, at least not for a new scope. You might want to try eBay.
