Can someon explain to me how the wifi trading thing works? and if my friend has diamond is it possible to catch them all if I buy pearl by using the wifi trade system.

Sure, I'll explain it.
First of all, if you use Wi-Fi Friend Code trading then you need to exchange Friend Codes with a friend online. Anyone who has the game and has Wi-Fi will be able to trade with you via Wi-Fi. Basically it works the same as normal trading.
However even if you have Pearl and your friend has Diamond, you won't be able to get all 493 Pokémon in the game yet.
Not many have Celebi or Deoxys and very few have Darkrai, Shaymin or Arceus.

Just go to a trading center and connect with a friend and trade pokemon. Get a friend show pokemon to each other and if you both have wished for pokemon then trade !
