Is it because they have studied the flight or fight response so well?

Because that's all they can run on. Common sense doesn't enter the fray when you're dealing with this version of the GOP.

Don't forget the Democrats scaring everyone about changing social security. WOW! Talk about scare tactics, huh? Instead of responding with , well that part won't work let's try this. No what do they do, hey all you people on social security, the president is going to cut your benefits. I mean lets get a grip on this thing. It'll be belly up in just a few short years. Let's fix it now and be done with it. But the Dems don't want to touch such a bounteous project. It needs to be turned over to mutual funds. OOOPPPSSS, I diverted sorry. Turn the mirror back on the Dems, they use fear far more than Repubs. Just look at any social program that is sucking up vast amounts of money and is not really helping anything, Repubs come in and say let's try this. The Dems begin their chant of the Repubs are going to end this we have to stop it. Nope let's let the black hole keep sucking more and more of our money just so we can claim that we are protecting you, the American public.

When people are afraid, they are more likely to overlook abuses of power, i.e. Patriot Act, etc. Also more likely to maintain the status quo.
