6 * 10^9 = 1000^x
log 6 + 9 log 10 = x log 1000
log 6 + 9 = 3 x because log 10 = 1
x = 3.25938375 with the use of a calculator

6 billion in the UK is 6 000 000 000 = 6x 1000 x 1000 x1000
So it is 6 x 1000^3. You can't write it as just 1000 to any power.

Now which billion?
10^9 (US) or 10^12 (of the civilised world) ?
say Z = 6 billion
the Q is to find x where ,
Z = 1000^x
or, ln Z = x ln 1000
x = lnZ / ln 1000
now take your pick, which side of the world you are
the rest should be easy.

It would be written as 6x10 to the power of 9, if you take a billion to be a thousand million, or 6x10 to the power of 12, if it's a million million. Billions can differ, British, American
