Do not confuse system RAM on the motherboard and onboard videoRAM on the graphics card. They are different and they do not have to be of the same type or size.

DDR3 vRAM is the fastest. Do not be enticed by cards w/ 512Mb ddr2. Same card model w/ 256Mb ddr3 will beat it ALL THE TIME. Many game applications will just not fully utilize the huge 512Mb vRAM most of the time.

DDR2 is the type of memory on the graphics card. Because that memory is only used for graphics and does not interface directly with the motherboard it does not need to be the same type as your system RAM. Just make sure that you buy a card of a compatible format (AGP or PCI-E) for your motherboard.

DDR stands for double data rate. I recently purchase a new video card with 512 MB of DDR2 RAM. It doesn't effect your computer, it will improve it.

the DD2 is talking about the type of memory on the video card, it doesn't matter what memory you have in your computer.

either one will work with the computer as long as it uses the proper type of slot on the computers motherboard... DDR and DDR2 are types of memory... DDR2 is usually faster than DDR
