I was a boyscout a long time ago. Then an explorer scout. It teaches you team work, loyalty, makes you think and you have fun. Now many years later I recently went to a reunion dinner and I have friends with their own families so you get more firends. I am proud to have been a scout and learned a lot from it and had great fun. If your friends think you are a nerd for being a scout maybe you need new friends. I have both the memories (all the scrap books and photographs) and friends. One of my friends children is visiting over here and there is always a helping hand if someone needs one. If you are in scouts then good. If not, then join. You can only try it and if it isn't for you ok, but if you don't just because people may think you are a nerd, then you are showing signs of weakness of character. By not joining you would be letting them push you around. Good luck - you won't regret it when you join and if you are one then stay with it.

There is a geek aspect to boyscouts. They have thier little manual and everything is done by thier little book. And if you hang out with a boyscout in the woods someday you will find that they have a warped sense that all behavior should be coordinated by the 'book'. They won't tolerate any danger or non sense. But, I would join and just understand that some geekiness is going to happen. It always sounded like fun and you can learn some stuff. Only reason I didn't go was because of money issues. Hopefully the leader isn't a Chester.

Do things that make you happy. This is your life. Do not worry that some "losers" might call someone a nerd. I'm sure Bill Gates was a "nerd" when he was young. Now he is the world's richest man.
Many famous people have been boyscouts. Good luck in scouting.

Hey bud, I don't think you should listen to what people think. It's even more nerdy to just go along with the crowd and be a "wanna be." To be cool, you gotta make your own choices in life. Don't care so much what other people think. So if you like Boy Scouts, stay there. I think they can teach you a lot of different things. My boyfriend was a Boy Scout and he's really smart. I worked at a Boy Scout camp one summer (I am a girl, by the way) and it was a lot of fun (but hard work). It does look good on your resume when you want to get a job. It makes you look like you are a responsible, take-charge kind of guy. You can also make some good friends over the years. Also, if you ever work at one of the Boy Scout camps, you will meet a lot of girls (guys and girls are ALWAYS falling in love at the Boy Scout camps...since girls are allowed to work there too). Anyway, those are not the main reasons. Just do it to have fun, get experience, and learn some cool things. People say it's nerdy but that's just because they are "supposed" to believe it, not that it's true.

No, you're not a nerd if you're in the boyscouts, and if other kids are like making fun of you, show them you can do something that they cant(and make sure its cool). This answer is not for anyone older than 16.

Hell no!
I was in Girl Scouts from Kindergarten all the way to High School and I loved it! We went on trips and did so many badass things I wouldn't have been able to do otherwise.
My brothers were also in Boy Scouts growing up and they always went camping, took trips and made some pretty cool stuff.
I would get a little ridicule from people about being a G.S. but it's only because they didn't know all the cool things I got to do that they never did. I say stay in it if you like it. And if you get your Eagle Scout award you can put that on your resume, it shows dedication and responsibility!
Everyone's a nerd in thier own way, don't sweat it. Be yourself and don't care what anyone else thinks. You will be much happier in life that way.

Being a Boy Scout does not mean you are a nerd. I was a Boy Scout from age 11 to age 15. Had a lot of fun, learned a lot of things. Biggest lesson, I began to learn who I am. Go ahead and enjoy it!! Don't worry about what others say about it being nerdy. It will teach you some of life's values.
Fare you well!!

Good heavens, NO! The boyscouts are for boys who are trying to improve themselves and grow stronger both physically and personally. You learn all sorts of great guy stuff in boyscouts. You do all sorts of manly things like trekking, building stuff, camping, etc. I'd like to see those wussy guys try to survive in the woods without video games for a weekend. I'd like to see those wimpy guys try to build a fire from scratch. And since you like it so much, stick with it!
