Could be a number of things wrong....what condition is the car in as far as maintenance....I would say you should start with a good tuneup with the mileage you have if it hasn't been done. Replace the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, air filter pcv valve to start with so you have a good baseline to determine what's wrong unless that clears it up....at 70,000 miles, it's due anyways. It sounds like a misfire under load which could be caused by weak spark from a bad coil, low fuel pressure, incorrect timing, etc..
Hope this helps, Paul

You are lucky that it is a small Ford you run as servicing is very cheap.
have a service if its got full dealer history then keep it up by going to a ford dealer as it will help resell value, if not find a good garage by word of mouth and book it in, otherwise it will let you down at the most inconvenient town, a full service will cost about a hundred quid. well worth it for peace of mind.

It sounds like it could be a misfire possibly caused by a bad coil pack, burnt plug wire, or fouled spark plug. My 99 Explorer had a misfire caused by the coil pack with 60,000 miles on it.

What a pity that the penguin did not have a chicken in the boot, which escaped whilst the car was in the garage. Then the mechanic could have said - 'sorry mate, but yer big 'en's gone!' Dorothy Mills (Mrs)

to be honest, it could be a simple problem, like you used bad gas and your car is pinging (predetonation of the fuel/air mixture) or it could be that you have a valve sticking, there could be about 4 or 5 things, but you really should take it into a proffessional to have them look at it, given youre gonna fork out some cash to get the diagnosis, but in the long run youll save.

change the fuel filter. Most manufactures say you don't need a tune up until a 100,000 miles but they are full of crap. if it's never been done change the plugs for sure and maybe a new set of wires.

try checking the brake servo pipe it may have a split in the rubber pipe sucking in air if the car runs fin eon tick over and at low speed you will probably only notice when you accelerate

Hi
Does this problem happen at all when the engine is still cold or only once it has warmed up or started to warm up? And are we talking about a petrol or a diesel engine?
Cheers

Change the fuel filter. If you can't remember when it was last tuned, then install plugs, cap, wires & rotor.
