AD is Anno Domini. Which stands for the year of the Lord. As for BC... man, i thought the idea was to get rid of Christ but as far as i know BC is still Before da man Christ.
Yup.... just checked it out in the dictionary. Total truth, we got rid of the man, the proper term is B.C.E. or Before the Common Era. Hope that does it http://education.yahoo.com/reference/dictionary/entry/B.C.E.;_ylt=AkLJe2ckg0YG.PQSU6A43v6ugMMF

BC is Before Christ and AD is Anno Domini -"in the year of our Lord" which assumes Jesus is not dead!
Now people use CE for AD which means Current Era.

BC means "before Christ".

AD means "Anno Domini", which is the Latin for "of our Lord". So 2007 AD literally means "the 2007th year [since the birth] of our Lord".

It is really incredible that some Christians are so ignorant they don't even know what A.D. stands for. If it stands for After Death, then how are the years between the birth of Jesus and his death counted? Just another example of Christian ignorance. A.D. is the abbreviation for the Latin Anno Domini, meaning "In the year of the Lord," starting with the supposed year of his birth. Added I like @Alan's interpretation better, though.

BC = 'before Christ'; AD = Anno Domini (Dominus), meaning "Year of the Lord", and referring to years after the knowledge of Jesus of Nazareth's birth, acknowledging Jesus as the 'lord'

BC: Before Christ
AD: Anno Domini (Year of Our Lord)

Because these are very explicitly Christian, historians now prefer:

BCE (Before Common Era)
CE (Common Era)

A.D. = Anno Domini (In the year of "our" Lord)
B.C. = Before Christ
C.E. = Common Era
B.C.E. = Before Common Era

The latter two are becoming more common, but all refer to the same "start" of our current basis of counting years which is the supposed time of the birth of the mythical Jesus.

BC actually stands for Before Christ which refers to the time before Christ's arrival. AD stands for after the death of Christ or the time following Christ's death. Hope this helps.
