Everyone pay their own freakin' medical bills and all other bills!!!!!!

Ida, you're not entitled to something just because you can't pay for it. Besides - Starbucks pays health insurance for baristas working 32 hours or more - - you're not too poor, you're just to proud to make lattes for a living.

Chi guy - funny, the proportion of this country that is in poverty is about half what it was in the mid-1970s at the height of the Great Society. That's because the tax burden put in place to pay for all those programs for jobless people cut into private sector job creation - the 'solution' made the problem worse.

The oft-repeated number of people without health care keeps increasing by ridiculous numbers - last year it was 35 million, now they're saying 40. It's like the global warming predictions - X didn't scare anyone, so they say 2X. Even if it is 40, there are 20-25 million illegal immigrants and it's illegal to insure them - - that means there's only 15-20 million "Americans" without health insurance.

Out of 280 million Americans in total.

That's 1 in 14 - hardly a crisis!

Pip - there's a direct correlation between age and income and between age and wealth. Most low income people are just starting out - young or recently immigrated here from another country. Of the bottom 20% of households by income, only 14.5% will still be in the bottom 20% a decade later. More - 15% - will make it to the top 20%. Chronic poverty is dramatically overstated - - you get some roofer with no education who makes $50K a year during a housing boom, he should know enough to save for the housing crash when he'll make $20K.

And the question remains - how does one person's lack of something entitle him to just take it from someone else?

Danny how is that an answer? How does your incurrence of a bill entitle you to have someone else pay for it?

I just don't understand how people in their 30s, 40s, can make in the $20K range without benefits - - those jobs you perform a repetitive task and get out at 4:30 - - so....... from that point on, the idea isn't that you go home, open up a can of Bud and watch and identify with King of Queens - it's you take night courses at the local community college, get an Associates degree in a marketable field, and get a real job.

Just because you decide not to grow up doesn't entitle you to rely on those of us who saw another option.

Hemingway this is the OPPOSITE of a dictatorship - it's the ABSENCE of force - YOU'RE the one who wants the government to force people to pay other people's bills!

Not everyone can afford to pay expensive medical bills. If the medical bills cost were cut, then people could afford to pay them.

Well I am admittedly not as educated on this subject as I should be, but with what I know I have to make this answer.
When this country was created, healthcare was so insignificant, they could not have understood what a problem it would be for the average citizen. Now what you have to delve into isn't really the problem of American healthcare, its the often repeated problem of how responsible for the average American debt is the US government? We live in the most prosperous country in the world, we have the most resources and yet our education system is BROKEN, our mental health assistance is NONEXISTANT our parks are SHRINKING, our welfare system doesn't work, our base labor force are ILLEGAL... but according to you, regular Americans should all get associate degrees and have 50k per year jobs so that problem can only get worse if you're elected president, hm?
You are right when you say that this "health care crisis" is an issue drug out of the mud to be used as a political pawn, and my personal opinion is that before we look to the government to provide us this kind of service, they need to fix the other services like education that they promised to us first. But right now.. to my eyes, they are just such a mess. So much unnecissary spending, so much wasted money, no wonder the world is starting to look at us as a country of debt.
Anyways, to answer your question directly, I don't really have a problem with my current medical insurance. So.. no, I don't support it I guess o.O

It's a start.
Something needs to be done, however, to lower the cost. Some tort reform would be nice. Requiring everyone above the poverty level to have a health plan would lower the policy costs as well.

Look, I get a thumbs down for saying everyone above poverty level should be required to buy their own medical plan. Everyone who said the government should provide a "free" plan gets a thumbs up.
Where is every body's head in this country. A government plan wouldn't be free. It would cost up the butt in taxes. It would be cheaper by far to require each person to buy their own. It's the same idea as a national health plan without the expensive bureaucracy.

Germany has socialized medical care but it isn't free. The working people pay for it with high taxes. About 50% to 60% of their wages go for taxes. When the government tells you that they are going to do do something for you remember nothing is free someone is going to pay for it.

So you are saying a single mom that make 15K a year should be able to pay the 5K that's needed for her and her children. Well she would be if the pharmaceutical companies weren't so greedy and charging high prices for the drugs that were researched with government funds.

What about insurance? Do you mean no health insurance for anyone and all medical is 100% out of pocket? Wow, talk about bankrupting a lot of people! On the other hand, doctors would be paid a LOT less.

What about those that truly can not afford it? I'm glad you have enough money.. and many people very well may.. but there are plenty of people who barely get by as it is... and can't afford a penny to anything else...if you don't believe that you haven't seen the darker side of America.. I worked with troubled teens for 2 years.. and many of their families lived in houses that literally still had dirt floors... tell me they can afford health care?

Edit: The people I have seen have always been in poverty and pretty much stay there.. many of them lack the basic skills and intelligence to improve their situation... and my question to you would be.. how can we call ourselves the greatest nation in the world when we refuse to take care of our own?

Great plan. When people start dying in the streets and spreading disease throughout the nation, what is the plan for that?

When doctors go out of business and hospitals close due to lack of resources, what then? How about abolishing ALL insurance and medicare too? Just allow the elderly to fend for themselves. Bad plan.
