What Could Cause A 2001 Honda Accord 2dr V6 To Stall While Driving?

I have an 01 Accord V6 with an Auto Trans. (all stock) with approx 95K miles that has stalled on three different unrelated occasions. The first time happened just after I merged onto the interstate at 65-70 mph. The engine became unresponsive, the car started to slow down, I drove onto the shoulder and it died. I put it in neutral, started it, and it drove fine for a couple of months. The second time it happened was while holding a steady speed of about 35 mph on a highway with the same symptoms. The third time was around 2-3 months later while slowing down for a red light. All three times I had around 1/2 tank of gas and was at normal operating temperature and all three times happened the same way by becoming unresponsive then stalling then starting right back up. Anyone else had this problem?

I saw the problem you describe quite frequently in the late 90's Hondas and they had a recall on them for the replacement of the ignition switch. This is the electrical contact switch that mates with the ignition cylinder on the back side and is turned by the cylinder when you turn the key. You have the classic symptoms of the ignition switch failure as the contacts wear because the main power for the car is through that switch. when the contacts inside the switch break contact you lose the power for the ignition system and the car stalls. usually the car can be started right back up when its brought to a stop.

I strongly recommend you have the ignition switch checked. I think you'll find that the contacts are burnt. i've seen them go bad on Accords and Civics that were out of the recall range and on other Honda models that were not involved in the recall.

the most common problem is the ingition switch electral part...call your dealer with your vin..there is a bulletin on this and if it hasnt been done u can get it fixed for free! another possible cause is the main power relay...these are not as common for the symptons u are having...most times they will not let the car crank back up for a few minutes until they cool down...ing switch is where i would look!

The reason is you probably forgot to change or replace the oil or your cars ignition wires are fried or something with one of the axles.

It sounds like you need a new fuel filter, I would say the one you have now is very dirty or clogged.
