some good points above. I think the Norse still are a big influence. Also yes they did colonize in ireland but also in scottland, and much of northerth europe like Lithoania which was their main up a river route to get to the spice and silk trades. once they had accoplished this they did become influence by the cultures they once raided. The die out of the Viking raids was a gradual one that has many sources like christianianity, cheaper to trade then raid, weaker kings, and citizens demanding greater power or say in government.

The Norsemen who went viking began settling down in the lands where they had once raided and even spread to Iceland. Ireland's coast has several cities colonized by men who came a viking and stayed on. Norse normally didn't raid Norse so going a viking just slowly died.

Viking is a verb for raiding up rivers and lakes. It is not a noun.

The Viking raids gradually came to an end since trade turned out be be less costly and more permanent. Much of "Viking" Norse culture and contributions continued to influence Northern Europe for centuries.

They had a king, in one of the homelands, who made Christianity their State Religion. This put a damper on murdering monks and raping damsels.
