I have heard quite a bit of news about how liberal American democrats are, and what a huge threat they pose to the welfare of the country, should they retain power. What exactly does the democratic agenda contain that is so threatening to republicans? Also, from an international point of view, it seems as though the democratic party is more in line with the issues of minorities in the U.S., and for whatever reasons, they (democrats) seem to be much more likely to receive suport of minorities in America. Are there also republicans who are minorities and who command significant respect in the republican party? Why do so many minorities consider the republican party to be racist? Wasn't the republican party responsible for the abolition of slavery? Sorry if my facts are a bit out of whack- we learned some things about American history in school, but that has been a long time ago, and the things I ask now are not commonly discussed on shows that I can receive here in Europe.

They intend to sieze control of the government from Republicans using a form of ritualized coup that we Americans call an 'election.' This is a terrible threat to the Republicans because 1) the democrats apear virtually certain, at this point, to succeed, and 2) /all/ the Republicans (and thier Democrat rivals) care about is siezing and holding power in this way.
"What exactly does the democratic agenda contain that is so threatening to republicans?"
Apart from the above, nothing of great importance. Republicans feign horror at the idea of two persons of the same sex getting married, or late-term pregnancies being ended voluntarily, but it's mostly an act for the christian fanatics that make up thier 'base.'
"Are there also republicans who are minorities and who command significant respect in the republican party?"
Money raised and poll numbers are the only things politicians really respect. If Obama has a 3% aproval rating and raised $24,000 instead of $24 million, the 50% of his genome contributed by his African father wouldn't save him.
Republicans thus 'respect' Colin Powell, for instance, since they suspect he'd be a good fund-getter and do well in the polls. Gen. Powell, however, declines to run.
"Why do so many minorities consider the republican party to be racist?"
Decades of Democratic propaganda. In reality, neither party is racist. Power has no color.
"Wasn't the republican party responsible for the abolition of slavery?"
Technically, yes. Lincoln was a Republican and he signed the Emancipation Proclemation. That doing so was a politically sound tactic against the rebellious South probably had something to do with it, too, however.

The threat posed by Democrats is they won't allow the Republicans to take away our freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of choice, and freedom to express our views and opinions about our governmental leaders anytime, anywhere. CLASSIC EXAMPLE! The Dixie Chicks! Their comment wasn't even uttered on American soil; They were in London at the time and they are still paying for it! However; Nothing has ever happened to Rush Limbaugh, who trashed President Clinton all over national television during the 90's; right here in America!!! The Republican party IS racist and while President Lincoln, a Republican, is credited with abolishing slavery (you'd think the south would be democrat), the Civil Rights Act wasn't passed until 1964. Who was President then and what party did he belong to?

Democrats would be socialists if they lived in Europe. There is not actually much of a difference between the two. Democrats divide people into groups and promise to give them special treatment and label their opponents as racists. It is truly despicable that they get away with it. The reason is that the press in this country is liberal with a New York bias against people living in the South. There is a constant drum beat, the republicans are racist, the republicans want to take your welfare, the republicans want you to starve. It is hard to believe that people would have fallen for that crap but many have. There is a huge obstacle to overcome when democrats have had such a powerful propaganda tool that they wield without shame.

I would say that the bleeding heart liberals spend my money on programs that I don't think should even exist, IE welfare, helping all the illegal immigrants for FREE, and countless other ways to spend MY hard earned money. This what I consider to be their biggest threat. That and the fact that they are so transparent. I suggest reading a book by Zel Miller he is a reformed democrat and the book is called 'A national Party No more' it talk about how democrats have changed their views over time and are really not the party they onc ewere.

As a Democrat, I will not be voting with my party this election. With Obama and Hillary, the Democrats are less of a danger to the Republicans than the Republicans. Ben: What makes you think that the Democrats would limit spending, or that they would even try. The first thing Nancy Pelosi did was try to get a larger jet, and the first bill she sponsored was one to increase taxes on domestic oil & gas production. After that, she submitted a bill to the Pres that would have amounted to the largest tax hike in the history of the nation. Do you think she did all this in an effort to spend less? if so, what gives you that notion?

Actually, the democrats are all for welfare. I really don't care what political party is in the White House, but I really wish the current administration weren't.

defeat in the next Presidential election - likely unless they come up with a moderate pragmatic centrist candidate - and I wish the Dems would come up with the same type of person.
(FYI the GOP changed early in the 20th century when Teddy Roosevelt left the party and took the moderate-progressive wing of the GOP with him)

They don'tpose a threat to us, but to our country! They believe in big government and having that government in every aspect of your life. If you don't want to work, then get on welfare and work the system, it's ok because we'll tax the republicans for it. We don't mind helping others, but we want to do it when WE want to NOT nwhen the government tells we have to. We work hard to get where we are going and should enjoy the fruits of our work, but the Democrats want to tax us to death for doing it and give it to others, Their whole idealogy is comusistic! What I have they want to give away. What idd good for their party is bad for the contry and what is good for the country is bad for their party!

Democrats want to leave us without guns and without a military presence and want us to be pacifists when there are jihadists that swear to annihilate us. I prefer to protect my family and want strong leaders that won't wimp out.
Dems have George Soros-a liberal billionaire socialist, to fund them and spread propaganda like Al-Jazeera does.
