Rats are very dangerous to newborn. They will bite and cause infections and disease. Do you rent? If so tell your landlord to get rid of the rats. Tell him you will not pay the rent until he gets rid of the rats. Then make sure you put the rent money into a separate bank account, every penny of it, every month he does not do anything about the rats. If he takes you to court over not paying the rent, you will have a statement from the bank with all the info on the money in the account. And you can tell the judge that you will pay as soon as he gets rid of the rats. If you own your home, I would try some De-Con rat poison, rat traps, or even a good mouser.

lots of rat traps especially the sticky kind because they catch more than the regular snap ones. Don't use rat poison! It can be harmful to the baby plus the rats die in your walls and stink up the house. One time we soaked some croutons in alcoholic mudslide mix and the rat keeled over dead from alcohol poioning right next to the container! lol If its bad call a professional but make sure they dont use any pesticides!

Warning- seperate all rats from mother rat and her babies. I do not suggest that you let any of the others with the babies except for the mother supervised or not. I know this sadly from experienced. My male bit a giant whole in one of the babies neck while I though he was just looking. The female was occupied by the other male rat. The baby eventually was eaten by the mother due to its injury.

Rat poison is dangerous to all animals, but a dog as small as a Chihuahua could possibly die from it.

Oh my goodness! I would stay @ my parents' house for a few days & hire an exterminator.
