Just purchased my first diesel engine car and not sure how many quarts of oil it will take when I change the oil. The car did not have an owner's manual.

Here's a few tips...

OIL, DELO 400 15W-40, about 6-7 dollars a gallon, MADE for that engine.

Dump a quart of tranny fluid anout once a month into the gas to keep the injectors clean.

Change the tranny oil and factory filter: Use MOBIL 1 SYN DEXTRON(it covers ALL dextron app's) and it's Fantastic!

Do NOT use aftermarket oil filters, go to the DEALER, and buy the factory filters...FRAM is garbage!

Drive slow after start-up, don't SIT and idle to warm your car up, and don't hammer on it until it is warm, like 10-15 minutes, and don't over-rev the engine.

Good Luck, and welcome to the club!

Autozone is also a good source for factory brake rotors/pads.

Good Luck!

this car takes 6 u.s. quarts [ the standard was back then 1 qt per cyl plus one for the filter and plus another for the oil cooler] thus 4cyl diesel took 6 qts 5cyl diesel took 7qts. the v8's did not have oilcoolers so took 9qts most of the 2.8 six cyl had oil coolers so took 8 qts but no cooler models took 7 qts.note the above statement about oil filters is true however the O.E. suppliers to mercedes were MANN and HENGST and both of these brands are available in the aftermarket in import specialty parts stores. for transmission fluids i have had good luck with the O.E. fluid from mercedes and fixed many that were serviced with a non approved fluid just by reservicing them dont forget to drain the convertor and good luck these are still solid cars.

The best thing to do is add 5 quarts of oil and check it. Add more if low, by adding a quarter of a quart at a time and checking it.

The factory specs I found said 6.9 qts. Add 6, start up the car breifly, then top off to the full line.

Call a Mercedes Benz service center or call Mercedes Benz customer service.

They should have that info.
