How do you change sizes for a crochet pattern for a baby set?

I have a crochet pattern for a baby sacque (sweater), booties & bonnet & it's for a 6 month old. I want to make it smaller (0-3 months). What are the different ways to do that? Thanks.

If I may, it has been my experience that unless you want baby to only wear this once, if at all, make the 6 month size. Babies grow so quickly that newborn sizes generally are too small too fast.

A one size pattern doesn't give you any idea of how to resize it either, and using smaller hooks and yarn will alter the gauge to the point that it may be too small to wear or be out of proportion and not fit at all. If your pattern starts at 6 month size and goes to a larger size, use the proportional differences in sizes and subtract the difference in stitches from the lower to the higher size rather than adding the difference. Do this with the measurements for length as well, keeping in mind that you also must figure in the stitch numbers of any pattern repeat. I'd still suggest the larger size, though.

Using a smaller hook will only work when you also use thinner yarn. But be care full that the fit will work.
Maybe you can find a like pattern where they made a drawing of the pattern, like a sewing pattern, often these are in scale.
You can check your work against the sizes in the pattern, so you know your work will not be too small of out of proportion.

I think your best bet is a mix of slightly thinner yarn, with the smaller hook, and less stitches in the starting chain.

Use a different crochet hook. Hook sizes determine how big or small the pattern will end up...... Also how many to chain in the pattern at the beginning. And Good Luck.

circulate on your community Library. My library has atleast 50 stable knitting and crochet books. My favorite are those by skill of Debbie Stoller (The sew and ***** series) Her chuffed Hooker e book is great! in case you very own one e book, it may well be that one. And, as far as web content circulate, i take advantage of the lion variety internet site alot.
