Right!!!! Thats it!!! I am fed up of Norton 2007 and am starting to think whether I should uninstall it and replace it with another internet security such as Windows Live One Care or something similar.
Anyone got any ideas and also do you think that Norton should be chucked off my computer???

OK cheers for the answers so far. Do you think I should download the other internet security stuff first then chuck Norton off?

you do not say which o/s you have?, i am assuming it is xp.

Norton is not a good program at all!. i manage a fair few systems and have removed this several times(you will probably have to use the norton uninstaller to remove by downloading it.) it slows machines down terribly and basically takes over.

On the machines that i maintain i install aol anti virus, it is free and written and managed by Kaspersky(very good reputation) it is basically kaspersky 6 with a couple of bits taken out. it is a very good program with very good detection rates. all you have to do is register with aol to receive an activation code(i have had no spam sent to me off them) in 7-8months i have not been called out once to a virus problem or any other! i have it on about 20 machines without incident at all ever. for a firewall download zone alarm free and for malware ect, spybot search and destroy and ad aware se personal edition, all are free and you will be better protected than you are with norton. your machine will run faster and smoother as a result.

regards

OK, if you want to get shut of Norton and then have some other Security Programme on your PC, take these steps....
Download Norton Removal Tool from this link
http://service1.symantec.com/support/tsg
It only takes a few minutes and you can be sure it will remove ALL remnants of Norton and then and only then you can put on a replacement Security system on your PC.
It's obviously up to you which one you use, but don't attempt to replace Norton until you've REMOVED all traces of Norton first.

Follow the steps above and remove Norton first before you attempt to download AVG or the like but don't wait around and have no Security on your PC.
You could do all that is necessary in about 15 minutes and then you can relax and have no fears. Good luck!!!

I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. AVG does not slow the system down as much as some other products and Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. They can all be downloaded from the following link. http://www.computeractive.co.uk/ On the home page select downloads and then the appropriate category.I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps.

Defiantly get rid of Norton - it's screwed up 2 of my computers and my friends laptop! the only reason I even got it on my 2nd computer was it came free!

I just use AVG now which is free (just do a web search) and it works great - I also use zone alarms fire wall for extra security - good luck mate.

DUMP IT!!!! Norton is a resource hog and 99% of the people know this. I would replace it with either Avast or AVG as both are excellent products. I use Avast on my 2000 Pro machine and I use AVG Network Edition on my 3 servers. Both preform very well for me.

100% get rid of it, make it dead, kill it off, bin it, send it to the great big yins in the sky, throw it in the ocean, bury it in the garden why it will mess up your computor unistall it and anything is better than that.
