the difference is the type of hardware that is used... they both also have different kernels. they both have different programming styles and techniques. both have a completely different look to them. MACs are better to use for multimedia and PC is best for business. not a lot of software works on MAC, but you can go out anywhere and buy any software and 9 times out of 10, it will work on a PC.

Any more, it's all about the OS and packaging. It used to be about different processors, but the new MACs are all on INTEL CPU's.

If you don't want to pay MAC prices, but want that OS, then buy a PC, reformat the hard drive and install freeBSD. You can get a copy from http://www.frozentech.com for a reasonable price. Then you will have a MAC at a PC price without the brand name or the packaging. OS X is freeBSD under the hood.

You can find a freeBSD equivalent for any piece of MS software .... like Open Office instead of MSoffice, etc. And the price is free! Well, there might be a small copying fee if you don't download it yourself.

Ask a MAC technician, they will verify, but naturally, they will tell you they made it better

Good luck!!

Mac's use a different OS.
And it's alot safer against Viruses.
No one writes Viruses for a Mac.
It's OS is a lot more secure then Windows.

Natively, pc's run Windows; mac's run their own operating system (mac os x). Windows is a "one-size fits all operating system", where-as os x is a bit more specialist (but more robust aswell)

Different processors & different operating systems are the two big differences.
