I agree with "Byakuya". I was watching something a while ago about this topic and the commentator was saying that Americans had to develop their own sports because they were not going through the same things Europeans were. They had the Atlantic Ocean seperating them from what was going on on the other side so they invented sports like football, basketball, and baseball.
Americans do tend to get bored with sports that dont give them action, but why is it that baseball is so popular? I think it is because that is a true American born sport and it is the pride that comes with it that makes it so popular even though there is not a lot of action.
All you need to do is give soccer or "football" some time and it will reach the levels of the other sports in the U.S.

Being from America, I know for a fact that its because there isn't enough violence. Americans like to see fights and hits. Another thing is that when soccer finally started to get going in america, there were already too many sports deeply rooted here that it soccer was shoved to the side. Football, Baseball, Basketball, heck, even hockey were here, so not to many people were interested in the "European" sport. But the fan base is starting to grow, and soccer might still have a future here in the US.

We do like soccer. May be not as much as you do but we do like it.
"Americans tend to get impatient when they're watching a whole game with a score of 1-0."
I think that's mostly the older Americans who don't have a clue on soccer that can't get excited about 1-0 game. But the young adults who grew up playing and watching world cup and national team soccer can appreciate well-played low scoring games.

I think most Americans need something with more "action" to keep them entertained. Americans tend to get impatient when they're watching a whole game with a score of 1-0. They like to cheer when their team scores and in soccer there just aren't enough opportunities to cheer.
That's what it seems like to me anyway. I could be wrong. I'm an American and personally I enjoy soccer more than American football so maybe I'm not the best person to answer this question.

I'm American, I love soccer (football, if you prefer), and lots of Americans feel like I do. The '94 world cup played in the USA is still the best attended in history. USA has been to 5 straight world cups, are the current CONCACAF champions, and the program is still moving in the right direction.

I guess because we watch football, but we are coming around and watching more soccer. Also, our children are playing more soccer, so perhaps in a few years it will become more and more watched!

The people who don't understand the game say they don't like it. They look stupid talking about something they don't know. But it is the same way with people all over the world that say they don't like baseball or American football without knowing anything about it.
