This is a political move to manipulate those people undecided on the issue. The link between the two is only that each regards sexuality; however, this small link makes it possible for those who, for ideological reasons, oppose homosexuality to saturate the media with statements linking the two. By doing so they are hoping to saw to their side people who are simply not informed on the issue, by linking homosexuality with something that is universally reviled in our culture (and rightly so).
I do not believe that this move is truly made out of ignorance, at least not entirely so. Rather I think it is a deft move calculated to exploit the ignorance of certain sectors of the general public.
Ultimately, the issue of gay rights is a proxy war. What the fundamentalist groups who express these sorts of opinions really want is to secure special rights for their own religious group. To do that they ways to leverage the public and gain critical popular support. Ultimately the smearing of gays is a function of this greater grab for power and influence.

Because they don't like homosexuality and pedophilia is beyond wrong... so they just link the two together and try to pass the blame onto homosexuals.

I don't get this one either, we don't compare pedophilia to heterosexuality, so I don't know why they do it to us. Seems like an outdated boogeyman story to me.
"Watch out, those scaaaaaaaaaary homosexuals are pedophiles. BOO!"

Because of the stigma surrounding the idea of "gay". They think being gay means your diseased, or wrong or dangerous! Which is absolutly false. Some of the worst killers and rapists and pedophiles are actually heterosexual.
