Well, as I used to own many pitbulls on different occasions, it's not the dog, it's how you raise it. I have had plenty of them and they were all raised up with children and were big babies themselves. We didn't fight them ,get their ears clipped or abuse them in any way, nor leave them chained up 24-7, so it's not always the dog...it's mostly the owner and how they raised the dog.

Pits, and all of that blood line, are strong in mind and body.
They require a strong leader, from the day they are born.
What they don't need are people who think it's cool to have a dog that others should fear. The owners are negligent in training and discipline. This leaves the dogs with no choice but to become the alpha.
If they do not respect their owners, they will not respect any human, especially the little ones. They don't attack kids because they don't like them, they are attacking a being that is threatening their position in the hierarchy. Kids being small
gives the dog more of an "oh, I don't think so!" attitude.
I have 2 American Staffordshire Terriers, an English Bulldog, a Maltese and 2 kids.
My dogs have never shown anything but gentle, loving, submission to my kids, who are 3 and 1.
The fault lies with the owners who do not have the ability to be strong leaders, but like the way a dog looks. They should be the ones punished.

As long as the owners are friendly and know how to take care of their pit bulls, with good exercise, affection and good vet check ups, and well fed! Then I don't have a problem.

I do have a problem with guys who use their dogs for dog fights for 'bets'...Thats the part I wanted BANNED!

I own a pit bull she is amazing. I think some people who own pits shouldn't (tweakers, drug dealers, white trash) but I think that pit bulls have such a bad name. It's sad.

I think pit bulls can be good and loving pets, as long as they have responsible owners.

I have a Rottweiler (and a Cockerspaniel), and love her to death. While big dogs can be intimidating to people, I think they're great if trained properly and are given a good home.

Pit Bulls are great! The people that feed them gun powder to make them more vicious to fight should put down instead.

I think the same as with people who own guns....they are twisted!!

Genetics being what it is these animals are bred for violent confrontations. As with "wild" animals people have attempted to tame (such as wolves) there is still the inbred instincts and no amount of "taming" can still the instinct.

Owners are increasingly being held liable for the animals behavior, as they should be. And I have absolutely no pity for them whatsoever.

Peace.

I love my pit bull, and I think I'm pretty likable too. My baby wouldn't hurt anyone that isn't breaking into my house, and if they are, he has my permission!

They can be fantastic dogs if trained - sadly they are too smart for most of their owners so end up untrained, and seen as a menace.

The folks who own them who turn them into attack dogs for no good reason should be shot, but that's just me :-)

I hate them with a passion. As long as the people who own them have a brick fence and the dogs cannot get out of the yard then that is their business.
