Or does it act as a soapbox for the spreading of misinformation and personal opinions?

Some of the topic areas seem to be more of one than the other. What is your experience?

I think- the best answers are ones that don't sound outside the realm of possibility and are often backed up by linked sources.

However- I'm too lazy to do that.

SO in short- I see Y/A as sorta like a tossed salad...theres alot of emtpy- letuce like answers...some that just gone bad...and there are a few ripe yummy gems like the cherry tomatoes or cucumbers... =P

Unlike a salad- you can choose to just take the good stuff and leave the rest....maybe I should have said its like a buffet....

(can you tell its lunch time?)

I have mostly used Y/A out of fascination, curiosity and entertainment, especially during those lulls at work, but I digress. If accurate information was imperative, I would not rely on Y/A for the answer. To me, it is more of a forum for personal opinion & experience.

I feel I've been helped. Some people ask stupid, silly, racist, sexist, bigoted questions and they often get the kinds of answers they deserve.

I've asked questions and have not gotten a response which was probably best because I'd rather get no answer than a faulty one.

Yes. As long as someone serious answers the question. It is a public base for people to vent, as well as to ask a serious question. It can be both helpful and non-helpful. If you want reasonable answer to your question..there is none. Just give it a try and see for yourself.

I think it depends on how stupid the question is. I'm certainly guilty of answering a really dumb question with a dumb answer.

the more serious questions, I either give facts or what I believe to be true. So, to answer your question, it depends.

I feel Yahoo Answers is a poor source of accurate information.
