That's a common misconception. It has a lot to do with Queen Elizabeth I, after whom the state is named. I and most people think it's about all fifty states. It's unfair to single out one.

Virginia makes us all feel better about ourselves. They make every other state seem so much better by comparison that they have to be in the news constantly. It's like laughing at a loser, or making fun of a fat kid. Suddenly, we feel so much better to not be one of them!
